There will only be four times a year when advancement will take place. For those that are too far away we can do something like Skype for the first few people. But the whole point is to NOT just be internet warriors. People are expected to meet up. Make the time. And we will have funds for those that just can’t afford to travel.

But yes, after the first few knights get promoted, so long as there is someone within range of another individual an expectation should be made that meet ups are mandatory.

The first set of knights to get promoted may have to all agree on a meeting place and we’ll do it there.

A good idea, for those that want to become members and work their way through the ranks, as soon as you become a member, set aside a few dollars a pay day for expected travel expenses.
Plan on traveling.
Just like one might for a vacation.

:cheer:

Or still keep with the idea of an exception until we have greater numbers. Vacations, especially those involving air travel, are expensive. Those going international will also need to have a passport, which can also be pricey.

And if I'm taking a vacation (I've never travelled for vacations) I don't exactly plan on going to Texas. It's hella hot down there and I would truly not enjoy a moment of it. XD I'm a northerner, and need to remain in the north.

Health exceptions might be necessary for some folk, as well

I just checked, to fly from Boston to DFW (round trip) is from $110 to $257 depending on how one might want to go about it.

For everyone starting now, no one will be ready by the winter meet up. So that leaves spring at the absolute earliest. That’s around 7 months. If one saved a little every day between now and then, bought the most expensive ticket, and were paid every two weeks they would only have to save $18.35 a pay check… for the most expensive first class seat.

It will be hardest for international travelers. So I may have to go to them to get people in different countries as I have passports and a reasonable means to travel. Then those knights can start holding meet ups in their respective countries.

This order requires far more effort and personal sacrifice than TotJO does. Charitable acts and volunteer work is mandatory to advance. Physical meet ups are required at some point. And to help with this there are lessons that go over personal financial responsibility. After all, how can one help others when they do not have the means to support themselves?

Very rarely is there a condition that restricts or prevents travel and they are usually temporary.

If there is a valid, current doctors excuse stating that the individual can not travel and one of our knights can not go there because there is an evil dictator that built a laser grid wall of death around them, then we may consider alternate options.

I was hoping as much. I looked it up. A flight from my neck of the woods to Texas can be over 600 bucks (one way), not including a passport and living expenses while down there. Its not a matter of not being able to support myself. I can support myself fine... I just don't have that kind of money to drop of a plane ticket.

I'm all for helping people, and I'm quite liberal with my money. I buy food for homeless people all the time when I have spare money. Perhaps one day when I have a career, but atm I'm a student looking for part time work, not a professional that can take time off to fly that far for any period of time. Even if I could, it would leave me with no money to help people here.

And that is completely understandable. Not everyone is at a point where travel is a good option or plan for them.

That is why we are also working on starting funds to help people and getting members in other areas that co go to people.

If it was something that was expected of people to do all the time, I would definitely say it was an unreasonable request or expectation. As it is something that may only need to be done once or twice in a lifetime… not so much. With planning, patience and effort it is completely achievable.

Continuation of last post…

I hear all kinds of excuses for things on a daily bases. I don’t mind them. :)

There are basically two kinds of people in the world. Those that look for reasons not to do something and those that look for ways to do something. It all goes back to the glass is half full or empty.

I am by NO means suggesting that I am super awesome or anything like that. But I am one of the people that ask, what I need to do to accomplish this. I realize there will be things to overcome, obstacles and challenges. It may be difficult, uncomfortable or even scary. But hey, I can either try, or not. Being afraid to do something doesn’t mean someone is a coward. It just means they recognize that it is difficult and they may not have the experience to overcome it on their own. So it may be hard to start or even come up with ideas how to start. Maybe the fear of being in an uncomfortable position has them to the point where they can only see the negative aspects? I really don’t know and there are lots of reasons and psychology behind both sides of the coin. So it would be too difficult for me to nail down in one post. At least a post short enough that people will read. LOL

Many do not know, but I was a single father for years. And I will tell you that there were times when “times were tough!” Money was ridiculously tight if there was any at all to be had let alone spared. I have a blown out knee that for years made it difficult and even painful to get around. And a job that required I stand on that knee ten to twelve hours a day. Needless to say I was eating pain killers like Skittles. (Sooo not good for you!) On a side note, my knee is much better now. It still hurts from time to time but rarely slows me down ;)

All that said, I found ways to get things done that I felt were important. My daughter wanted to be a Gymnast. For those that don’t know, this is a very expensive sport to be in. And takes a lot of time out of your life. I also Home Schooled my daughter with the help of my Mother. And I will say thank goodness for her. My Mom and my Dad were very supportive through it all. And that is important! You do as much as you can but sometimes you just feel like it is all going to blow up in your face and you’ll be a big failure and it will all be your fault for trying when it was too hard to begin with. And yes, there were days I felt just like that. But my Dad always had a good word to share that made me feel better and my Mom might watch my daughter so that I could have a few minutes of me time every once in a while. Family is important. And I mention them to let everyone know that it is almost impossible to do it all by yourself. We have to help each other.

But back to the point. I have met most of my apprentices. Some, several times. Whether I had to go to them or they had to come to me, or we met somewhere in the middle, it was important enough that we found a way to make it work. I have met friends by having camp outs. Gone to Jedi events. (even though I wasn’t completely thrilled to go)

The point is, don’t focus on reasons why you can’t do something. Especially here. If it’s important to you, look for ways to do it. People will help as much as they can I’m sure. And if something comes up where it’s just not possible, we’ll look for alternatives when necessary. ;)

Fair.

I'm afraid to travel. For financial and health reasons.

I guess to advance here, that's something I'd have to address.

I currently am a few thousand miles away from you, but by the time I have completed all studies, I expect things to line up so I can finally be admitted as a tourist in the US, and visit you guys.

I have family in Houston, so I can see this working in maybe 2 or 3 years.

Are the meetings a requirement? If I understood correctly, it is 4 meetings a year, yes? is it possible to make it to only 1 meeting? can there me a minimum, at least?

I live in VA so it wouldn't be too bad but 4 times a year is a bit much for me, personally! I do love the idea of starting a fund to help out other members, I think it's a fantastic way to feel united :)
