Impactful Books

For me, the most impactful book will always be the first one I read that got me started on the path to begin with, The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff. I never felt so illuminated as I did after reading this, and there really hasn't been a book since that had the same effect (although a few have come close). I imagine a few of you have read this, and I'd recommend it to anyone. The simplicity the author uses to explain complex subjects makes all the difference, in my opinion. It'll always be one of my favorites

Hagakure: Book of the Samurai by Yamamoto Tsunetomo - I have always been fascinated by the Eastern influence on Star Wars, and this book made me see Darth Vader in a whole new way.
Tao of Seneca by Tim Ferriss - This combined two of my favorites, letter from the famous Stoic Seneca and the Tao.
First Knight (Nov 26th, 2018)
Battlefield Commission - Knight

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Ken Kesey
Just a great novel. Changed my idea of society and i find myself re reading it almost yearly.
Never forget that wars have three parties, never ignore the party not involved in the battle itself for they often suffer worst.

Senan, I just started reading Hagakure and it has been fascinating so far. You're also not the first person I've heard say they liked Meditations...I'll have to check that one out next

I've seen the movie, but not read the book. I imagine if it's like any other book I've read, than it is much, much better than the movie. I'll put this on the list as well.

“Freedom from the known” by Jiddu Krishnamurti.
Most people that know me will read that and say WHAT!?!?
Mostly because I have such a negative view of the absolute tripe and garbage spewing forth from the pages of that festering cesspool.
So how is that the book that had the greatest impact on my path? It gave me a new resolve to combat bullshit and lies and share actual truth with people as much as possible and stand up to those that would poison the minds of those searching for what they do not know.
LOL

Hahaha, I remember reading that and feeling much the same, at least for most of it. As I went through and read others ideas of it, it seems like something about our cultural sensibilities made the book seem pretty outrageous at times. I think that's why it was presented with a disclaimer I appreciate your description hahahaha.

The Last Herald Mage trilogy by Mercedes Lackey: taught me that I don't want to live without emotion
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho; showed me that I have a purpose
The Kitab-i-Igan by Bahá'u'lláh; taught me what faith is and demonstrated how to have it
The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran; taught me to look beneath the surface of things for the truth
The Republic by Plato; showed me that the outliers are the ones who effect change
The Lord of the Rings trilogy by JRR Tolkien; pointed out the dangers of greed and industry
Dune by Frank Herbert; taught me to rely on and trust myself regardless of what others want for me
These are just a few out of so many..... I was raised by books.
