Apprentice Historian Requirements


Welcome to the Apprentice Requirements section of the Historian’s Guild. Here, I will outline what is required to receive the Apprentice title in the Order and move on to the Journeyman Lessons. The Apprentice lessons are designed to give an Initiate a thorough grounding in World History and provide a solid base to move on to research in the Journeyman levels.


General Requirements:

- Must be a Page

- Must request initiation to the Guild from one of the Guild Masters

- Must have been assigned a mentor before you can begin working in the lessons. The mentor will create a guild journal for you


Specific Requirements:

- Must complete the Apprentice Core Lessons in Research

- Must complete the Apprentice Core Lessons in World History: An Apprentice must read and complete the text McDougal and Littell’s World History: Patterns of Interaction. This will be available in our Order’s library as a PDF. The member will work through each chapter and complete a series of Vocabulary, Short Answer, and Critical Thinking questions. Short answer questions will a paragraph or two explaining the question asked, while Critical Thinking questions will be short essay with a minimum of 500 words each.

-Must complete the Apprentice Core Lessons in Medieval History: These will also be derived from the text McDougal and Littell’s World History: Patterns of Interaction.

-Must complete a Reflections Essay on what you have learned in the Apprentice Program, and the direction you will like to take your research in the Journeyman Lessons

-Must be recommended by your mentor to move on to Journeyman lessons


Optional Supplemental Material: Although not required, this material is recommended for review by apprentices to supplement text. Self study and research is encouraged and we provide the following supplemental materials:

The Khan Academy’s World History Lessons: The Khan Academy provides basic lectures in all areas of World History for free and is a great resource for introductory World History lessons. Members can create a profile and work through each of the lessons there in conjunction with the work they are doing in the textbook.

World History: Cultures, States, and Societies to 1500: Available as a PDF in the Order’s Library, we will also have the supplemental textbook World History: Cultures, States, and Societies to 1500 available for reference. This latter source contains links to the many diverse areas of World History up to the year 1500 that can be used to supplement research. This resource will also be available in the Order’s Library as a PDF.

-Apprentice Core Lessons in Medieval History
